Rosai Dorfmann disease occurs when there is an over-production of histiocytes - histiocytes are a type of white cell. The disease affects the lymph nodes of the body, mainly those in the neck but it can also affect the skin, central nervous system, kidneys and digestive tract.
There is no known cause.
