Whilst we are delighted that you are organising an event and raising money on our behalf, The Histiocytosis Research Trust cannot be held responsible for the organisation and supervision of any fundraising activities. Please be advised that all activities and participation are at the organisers and participants own risk. The H R Trust does not accept responsibility or liability for any loss or damage to property or personal effects arising from any fundraising activities on our behalf.
Before going ahead, you need to make sure that what you are organising is safe and legal. It is advisable to carry out a risk assessment to ensure you have proper safety procedures in place for all participants. Contact The Health and Safety Executive for further information www.hse.gov.uk on how to go about this.
Check with your local council to see if you require any permission for what you wish to organise. You may need to think about licensing such as a public entertainment licence or an alcohol licence. Or you may need to contact Trading Standards. If you are planning to hold your event in a public place, you will need to contact your local police force. Also, if you are planning to sell food and drink, it would be advisable to contact your local environmental health department for advice.
The H R Trust does hold public and product liability insurance which covers volunteers organising certain events. Please contact us to check whether your particular event will be covered. It is imperative you have proper insurance in place, particularly with regards to the venue you are using. Any facilities or activities you are hiring should also be covered by insurance.
It is important that everybody remains safe when fundraising and therefore all volunteers/employees must comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. More information can be obtained from www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/law.pdf
Children must be kept safe and have the permission of a parent to participate or attend any fundraising activity.
It is important that prior to your event, you obtain First Aid advice from your local St John's Ambulance branch and for information about fire safety, please contact your local fire station.
There are many different regulations regarding selling raffle tickets to the general public at an event. It is important you contact the licensing department of your local authority for guidance. Further information can be obtained by visiting www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk
If you are planning a sponsored event or taking part in one, always use an H R Trust sponsorship form download/print H R Trust sponsorship form.
Alternatively, you could set up a fundraising page on either Justgiving www.justgiving.com or Virgin Money Giving www.virginmoneygiving.com
If you are organising an event, you might want to consider approaching local companies or business people and asking them to sponsor certain things on the day. For instance, at a barbecue, you could ask them to sponsor a table or at a sports tournament, a team. For further advice please contact The H R Trust directly.

Please ask donors/sponsors if they are UK tax payers to sign a Gift Aid declaration or tick the relevant box on the H R Trust sponsorship form. This enables us and higher rate tax payers to reclaim tax from HM Revenue and Customs download/print gift aid form.
Please ensure that all your fundraising materials state you are fundraising "in aid of The Histiocytosis Research Trust charity no: 1004546."
